1A/2A State Results

Brandon Gain was the highest placing Cobra coming is 3rd. He lost a tight match in the semis to the eventual champion. Brandon wrestled back and finished strong. Congrats to our 103lber!

Lance Lepard making his first appearance at the tournament in a tough 171lb weight class placed 5th! He faced some strong competition but battled his way through winning his last match against a ranked wrestler. Way to go!

Matt Taylor had a rough tournament in a stacked 125lb weight class. He was able to add some points to the Tech total, but was one round short of placing. We will sorely miss Matt, but wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors at the police academy.

Region Excitement in St. Michaels

Harford Tech had a respectable 4th place finish above 12 Bayside schools and 5 UCBAC schools in the 1a/2a East Regional Competition held in St. Michaels, MD over the weekend.

Harford Tech took seven wrestlers to the Regional Tournament and all seven placed in the top six!

Congratulations to Brandon Gain...2x Region Champ. Brandon has not had a point scored against him in the post season. He ran the score up on Kromer (North Caroline) and then pinned him in the beginning of the third period in the finals.

Matt Taylor our lone Senior on the team did not disappoint! Our Region champ gave the audience an exciting match winning with a takedown in overtime to win 4-2. This was Matt's third win over Kyle Draine from Bo Manor. Way to go Matt!

Lance Lepard lost a heartbreaker to get in the finals but wrestled back and came away with a third place finish. We look for good things from you in the future.

Mark Massimini, Tyler Hiob and Eric Borlie all came away with 5th place finishes. They represent Harford Tech and the 1a/2a East Region as alternates in case another wrestler has to drop out of the competition.

Our final placer, was Eric Foltz in an unpredictable 285 class. Kudos to Eric for avenging his loss to Baranski from Rising Sun.

UCBAC Update

Despite snow and sleet, or lack thereof, the UCBCAC Tournament still took place on Saturday at Aberdeen High School. Harford Tech put up a strong showing and placed third behind Rising Sun and Bel Air.

Congratulations to our Champion Brandon Gain with his mdec. 12-0 win over Adam Heffelfinger (RS). Second place honors go out to Matt Taylor and Cory Wood. 3rd place grabbed by Mark Massimini, Tyler Hiob and Lance Lepard and 4th place finishers were Eric Borlie and Eric Foltz. Finishing in 5th John Walther and in 6th place, respectively, Patrick Rivera, Tom Hagin and Austin Herman.

Placing 12 out of 14 wrestlers in the top 6 is a great accomplishment for the Cobras!

Bel Air Stops The Streak

Bel Air stopped the Harford Tech win streak last night as they downed the Cobras 43-22.

The most intense match of the night came from Sean Ellenby and Matt Taylor at 125. Taylor scored first and took Ellenby down. Ellenby then scored a reversal and rode the rest of the first period despite a good effort by Taylor. In the second period Taylor rode and in the third period Ellenby rode. During the first overtime neither wrestler scored. In the second overtime, Ellenby scored an escape and Taylor tried valiantly to get another takedown to win, but couldn't pull it out before the final buzzer. What an exciting well wrestled match! Congrats to both for leaving it all on the mat.

Winning wrestlers for Tech were: Brandon Gain (pin), Mark Massimini (pin), Cory Wood (dec.), Tom Hagin (maj. dec.) and Lance Lepard (dec.)...Great job guys!

Cobras On The Attack

The Cobras were on the attack when they wrestled Fallston on Friday. The Cobras only allowed the Cougars to scrape up three victories.

Dominant performances were handed in by Brandon Gain, Andrew Goins, Tyler Hiob and Cory Wood who all pinned their way to victory.

Mark Massimini, Matt Taylor, John Walther, Patrick Rivera, Lance Lepard and Eric Borlie all fought hard and each decisioned their opponents. Tom Hagin scared off his competition and was awarded a forfeit win, respectively.

Travel with the Cobras to Bel Air on Wednesday, January 30th. This will be the final divisional match-up for the Cobras and it will be a nail-biter! Come and support the team.
